Valentine's Day on Star Base 12
Valentine’s Day arrives on Star Base 12 at Beltane Manor at Bedford Territory.
Lord Andrew Charles and Lord Richard William Carey present Lady Karissa with some red and white roses for Valentine’s Day and Lady Elizabeth, Lady Samhain, Lord Anthony Christopher present their mother with a bouquet of pink roses and a special Valentine’s Day Card.
Lady Karissa graciously received the Valentine’s Day roses and cards from Lady Elizabeth, Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony Christopher.
Lady Karissa explains, “ We are Pagans and we really don’t observe Valentine’s Day as it replaced Imbolc on February 2.”
“I appreciate the thought, but do we really know what St. Valentine’s Day that the Christian world is celebrating.” Lady Karissa asks.
“The legend of St Valentine’s Day is
Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February
It originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.
There are a number of martyrdom stories associated with various Valentines connected to February including an account of the imprisonment of Saint Valentine of Rome for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire in the third century. According to an early tradition, Saint Valentine restored sight to the blind daughter of his jailer. Numerous later additions to the legend have better related it to the theme of love: an 18th-century embellishment to the legend claims he wrote the jailer's daughter a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell before his execution; another tradition posits that Saint Valentine performed weddings for Christian soldiers who were forbidden to marry.
There is a tradition that the Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496 to be celebrated on February 14 in honor of Saint Valentine of Rome, who died on that date in AD 269. The feast is found in the Gelasian Sacramentary (which was compiled after Gelasius), meaning that it has been observed since at least the eighth century. The day became associated with romantic love in the 14th and 15th centuries when notions of courtly love flourished, apparently by association with the "lovebirds" of early spring. In 18th-century England, it grew into an occasion in which couples expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). Valentine's Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards. In Italy, Saint Valentine's Keys are given to lovers "as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver's heart", as well as to children to ward off epilepsy (called Saint Valentine's Malady).
Saint Valentine's Day is not a public holiday in any country, although it is an official feast day in the Anglican Communion and the Lutheran Church Many parts of the Eastern Orthodox Church also celebrate Saint Valentine's Day on July 6 in honor of Roman presbyter Saint Valentine, and on July 30 in honor of Hieromartyr Valentine, the Bishop of Interamna.
Numerous early Christian martyrs were named Valentine. The Valentines honored on February 14 are Valentine of Rome (Valentinus presb. m. Rome) and Valentine of Terni (Valentinus ep. Interamnensis m. Rome. Valentine of Rome was a priest in Rome who was martyred in 269 and was added to the calendar of saints by Pope Gelasius I in 496 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. The relics of Saint Valentine were kept in the Church and Catacombs of San Valentino in Rome, which "remained an important pilgrim site throughout the Middle Ages until the relics of St. Valentine was transferred to the church of Santa Prassede during the pontificate of Nicholas IV". The flower-crowned skull of Saint Valentine is exhibited in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome. Other relics are found at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church in Dublin, Ireland
Cupid is the son of Venus who is the Goddess of Love in Roman Paganism and he is associated with love as is Venus.
Cupid was the son of Venus and Mars in Roman Paganism like Eors was the son of Aphrodite the Goddess of love and Ares the God of War in Greek Paganism.” Lady Karissa explains.
“Once again Christianity steals Pagan celebrations for Paganism and what happened to them following one of their ten commandments “Thou Shalt Not Steal?” Lady Karissa asks.
“I think the sentiment surrounds St. Valentine’s Day is very nice and romantic.” Lady Karissa tells her children.
“I do think romance is not a one yearly celebration and we should always show how we feel and don’t hide.” Lady Karissa explains.
“I think there should be more romance in a relationship, affection, and less lusty, sex, and a couple should learn to communicate with each other and one another.” Lady Karissa tells her children with Lord Andrew Charles and Lord Richard William listening.
“I don’t think men should hide their feelings just because of male pride and ego.” Lady Karissa states.
“I love the white and red roses that you dear children have given me along with the beautiful card. Thank you Lord Andrew Charles and Lord Richard William for the flowers.” Lady Karissa states.
